Julien Desmarais has had a varied work experience. In 2009, they were a Research and Development (R&D) Intern at the California Institute of Technology, where they worked on data visualisation. In 2010, they were an R&D Intern at Aria Technologies, where they were a validation engineer and worked on simulating the spray of atmospheric contaminants in inner Paris. In 2011, they were a Teaching Assistant at Eindhoven University of Technology and an R&D Intern at Air Liquide, where they developed a Python code for simulating composite hydrogen cylinders. In 2016, they became the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Co-founder of DiGEiZ. Finally, in 2022, they became an Associate at Time for the Planet, a mission-based company working to gather 1 billion euros to deploy 100 innovations to combat climate change.

Julien Desmarais has an extensive education history. Julien obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from the Eindhoven University of Technology between 2011 and 2015. Julien then completed their Master of Science (MSc), Ingénieur Civil des Mines in Process Engineering from Mines Paris between 2008 and 2011. Julien also participated in an Exchange research program in Applied Physics at Caltech between 2009 and 2010. Finally, they completed their CPGE PC* in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at Lycée Berthollet between 2006 and 2008.
