Meg Satterthwaite

Margaret (Meg) Satterthwaite is Professor of Clinical Law at NYU School of Law, where she is Co-Chair and Faculty Director of the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice. She directs the Global Justice Clinic, which takes a rights-based approach to legal accompaniment and representation. The Clinic’s docket includes cases and projects concerning the human rights impacts of gold mining, the rights to water and sanitation, and the human rights of those impacted by counter-terrorism policies. Satterthwaite’s scholarship focuses on these issues, as well as examining social science methods in human rights, such as the use of indicators and metrics. She has worked extensively in Haiti, and has conducted human rights work in a variety of other countries, including Nigeria, Northern Ireland, the United States, and Yemen. Satterthwaite has served on numerous boards as a member or advisor to organizations including Amnesty International USA, the Global Initiative for Economic and Social Rights, the Human Rights Reference Group of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, and the International Justice Resource Center. She has served as a consultant or advisor to various U.N. agencies including the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Water and Sanitation, the Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Counter-Terrorism, UNDP, UN Women, and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. She is a co-mother to twin sons and lives with her family in Manhattan.
