David DeWitt is the Chief Risk Officer at Digital Federal Credit Union. David has over 25 years of experience in the IT industry, including stints as a consultant for Snowflake, Facebook, and Microsoft.
DeWitt began their career as a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they taught courses in database systems and developed several ground-breaking technologies that are still in use today. In 2008, they left academia to join Microsoft, where they helped establish the Jim Gray Systems Lab (GSL) as a research and advanced development facility. During their eight-year tenure at Microsoft, DeWitt made significant contributions to the SQL Server product line, including helping to turn the DatAllegro acquisition into the successful appliance offering SQL Server PDW/APS. David also designed, prototyped, and helped deliver Polybase, first as a feature of PDW and later as an integral component of SQL DW and the 2016 release of SQL Server.
In September 2005, DeWitt left Microsoft to join Vertica as a consultant. David spent three years at Vertica before returning to consulting in 2008. David has since consulted for a number of companies, including Snowflake, Facebook, and Digital Federal Credit Union.
David DeWitt received their Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan. David also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Chemistry from Colgate University.
