Nungari Mwangi

Nungari Mwangi is a Kenyan national who is currently the Director at DIGITAL OPPORTUNITY TRUST.

Nungari has over 7 years experience in the development sector, having worked with various organizations such as the University of Cambridge, AGRA, International Labour Organization, and Dalberg Global Development Advisors.

In their previous role as an Undergraduate Supervisor at the University of Cambridge, Nungari supervised students in East African Comparative Politics and conducted undergraduate admissions interviews for Land Economy candidates.

At AGRA, Nungari worked on projects focused on Agriculture and Food Security strategy. Nungari also provided analysis on seed value chains and helped to develop recommendations for collaboration between Ethiopian Federal and Amhara Regional Seed Enterprises.

As a Research Consultant with the International Labour Organization, Nungari co-authored a technical background report that synthesized linkages between growth, poverty, and inequality for ILO's decent work agenda.

In their role as an Associate Consultant with Dalberg Global Development Advisors, Nungari facilitated a roundtable discussion to establish the need for a national coordination mechanism for Agriculture in Tanzania. Nungari also analyzed private sector investment opportunities in South Sudanese Agriculture for the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Cooperatives and Rural Development in Juba, South Sudan.

Nungari Mwangi has a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge. Her research focus is on the political economy of the Kenyan flower sector and on export strategies for small and medium-scale enterprises. Nungari also holds a Master of Philosophy in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge, and a BA in Political Science (International and Comparative) from Brown University. Nungari is a certified member of the Society for International Development, Washington Chapter (SID-W) and has received the Andrew E Rice (Truman) Award from SID-W in 2016.
