Senior Director Of Collections And Archives at Diriyah Gate Development Authority

Thomas Loughlin has extensive work experience in the field of archaeology and museum management. Thomas has held various roles at multiple organizations since 2000.

From 2022 onwards, Thomas Loughlin has been working at the Diriyah Gate Development Authority as the Senior Director of Collections and Archives. Prior to that, they held the position of Director of Collections and Content at the same organization starting in March 2022.

Before joining Diriyah Gate, they worked as a Research Associate at the Koutroulou Magoula Archaeology and Ethnography Project (Brown University) from April 2021 onwards. Their responsibilities included preparing the site archive for publication of the excavation findings.

From 2016 to 2020, Thomas Loughlin was associated with the National Museum of Qatar, where they served as the Deputy Director (Collections) from October 2018 to December 2020. Before this role, they worked as a Senior Documentation Specialist at the same institution from August 2016 until October 2018.

Thomas Loughlin also worked at Qatar Museums Authority and Irish Institute of Hellenic Studies. At Qatar Museums Authority, they held the position of Senior Documentation Manager from September 2013 to October 2018. At the Irish Institute of Hellenic Studies, they served as an Assistant Director from October 2009 to May 2013.

In addition, Thomas Loughlin has experience in project management of archaeological excavations. Thomas worked as a Field Director at the Sparta Theatre and Koutroulou Magoula Excavation Projects from July 2008 to October 2012. Prior to that, they served as an Archaeological Supervisor for university-led archaeological excavation projects from June 2003 to August 2005.

Thomas Loughlin started their career as an Archaeology Site Supervisor at VJK in 2000 and held the role until July 2005.

Thomas Loughlin holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Archaeology of Neolithic Greece, which they obtained from the University of Liverpool between 2005 and 2010. Prior to that, they completed a Master's degree in Eastern Mediterranean and Near Eastern Archaeology from the same university in 2001-2002. Thomas also has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) International degree in Greek and Roman Civilization, Archaeology from Universtiy College Dublin, earned from 1995 to 2000. Thomas further pursued studies in Agriculture in 1993-1994, obtaining a National Certificate in Agriculture from Warrenstown College of Agriculture. Thomas completed their secondary schooling at Patrician Brothers Secondary School, obtaining a Leaving Certificate in 1993. In addition to their academic qualifications, they have certifications in Prince2 Project Management, both Foundation and Practicioner levels, obtained from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, with the Practicioner certification acquired in April 2016.
