Christy Young-Cormier serves as an Ombudsman at Disability Rights Louisiana since May 2013, working within a federally funded protection and advocacy agency that offers various programs, including the Community Living Ombudsman Program. Prior to this role, Christy coordinated the LaTEACH Statewide initiative at Families Helping Families of Southwest Louisiana, Inc. from 2005 to May 2013, where responsibilities included training and supervising regional leaders and developing statewide trainings focused on policy, communication, advocacy, and rights. Additionally, Christy has experience as an Education Advocate/Program Coordinator, providing training and support to families of students receiving special education services while consulting on rights related to Federal and State education laws. Christy holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts with a focus on Public Relations and Organizational Communication from McNeese State University, earned between 1993 and 1999.
