Chief Science Officer at Discovery Place

Heather Norton has extensive work experience in the field of science education and leadership. Heather currently holds the position of Chief Science Officer at Discovery Place since August 2021. Prior to this, they served as the Vice President of Science and Nature at Discovery Place from August 2020 to August 2021, and as the Vice President of Learning Experiences from July 2019 to August 2020.

Before joining Discovery Place, Heather worked at the Orlando Science Center for several years. Heather'sroles included Vice President of Education from September 2014 to August 2020, Senior Director of Education from June 2012 to September 2014, Director of Educational Services from July 2009 to June 2012, Manager of School Programs from July 2008 to July 2009, and Science Interpreter from December 2007 to July 2008.

Prior to their tenure at the Orlando Science Center, Heather worked at the PALS Lab as an English Teacher from September 2006 to September 2007, where they taught English as a foreign language to preschool through middle school students and conducted art classes for preschoolers.

Heather's early experiences in the industry include positions at SeaWorld Adventure Park, where they served as an Assistant Supervisor from March 2004 to September 2006, a Tour Office Lead from May 2003 to March 2004, and an Educator III from April 2002 to May 2003. In these roles, they were responsible for education programs, guest services, and animal care.

Overall, Heather Norton has a strong background in science education, leadership, and program management, with a focus on delivering high-quality STEM learning experiences to the community.

Heather Norton attended the University of British Columbia from 2016 to 2019, where they earned a Master of Education (MEd) degree in Museum Education. Prior to their time at UBC, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology from the University of Central Florida from 1998 to 2002.
