Niko Gomez

Software Engineer at Disruptive Games

Niko Gomez has a diverse work experience in the field of software engineering and game design. Starting in 2014, they worked as a Unity Engineer at the Cognitive Technology Group, where they developed a game called "Ecopoiesis" that allowed players to grow plants using their brainwaves. Niko also built a concentration metric algorithm and used it to parameterize procedural plants in the game.

In the same year, Niko worked as a Unity Engineer at Multimedia Orchestra, where they created a musical collaboration game called "Song Bird." This game involved flying across a procedurally generated hexagonal cityscape in virtual reality and chasing songs. Niko designed the generation algorithm for the cityscape and implemented a control schema using Leap Motion for subtle movement. Niko also incorporated parabolic movement for the song objects to enhance the spacial-audio experience.

Moving forward, Niko joined Radd3 in 2014 as a Unity Engineer and rapidly prototyped six virtual reality games using various headsets and peripherals. This led to a contract with Mattel, where they developed "Underwater Adventure" for Mattel's View Master. Niko utilized C# and Unity to generate a procedural pirate ship and integrated Vuforia Unity AR plugin. Additionally, Niko designed a sound effects system using assets from Freesounds.

In 2017, Niko worked as a Co-Facilitator of Game Design and Development Decal at UC Berkeley. Niko gave lectures on unity-specific topics and general game design principles, aimed at helping students develop their own games.

In 2018, Niko joined Penn Interactive Ventures as a Software Engineer, where they maintained, updated, and built features for their signature app, Viva Slots Vegas. Niko also built a Snowplow analytics pipeline on Amazon Web Services using ansible scripts and cloud-formations.

Most recently, in 2020, Niko joined Disruptive Games as a Software Engineer, where their role and responsibilities are not specified.

Niko Gomez attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2012 to 2017, where they earned their Undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Cognitive Science.
