Michael McCarthy

Michael McCarthy has extensive experience in educational leadership and student support services. As Chief of Schools at Distinctive Schools since August 2015, Michael oversees the operations of nine schools, serving over 4,000 students, and leads initiatives that align with strategic performance goals. Previously, as Director of School Culture at DREAM Charter School, Michael developed systems to foster an achievement-oriented environment. Michael also contributed as a founding member of The SEED School of Maryland’s leadership team, directing student support services, and served in counseling roles at F.H. Tuttle Middle School and Centerpoint Adolescent Treatment Services, focusing on mental health and substance abuse recovery. Michael holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Middlebury College and two Master’s degrees in Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling from the University of Vermont.
