Dr. Sonnie Babatunde Ayere

Dr. Sonnie Babatunde Ayere has a diverse and extensive work experience. Dr. Sonnie Babatunde is currently the Founder, Group Managing Director, and CEO of DLM Capital Group, a position they have held since April 2020. Prior to this, they served as the Chairman and CEO of DLM Capital Group from 2009 to April 2020.

In addition to their role at DLM Capital Group, Dr. Ayere has held several chairmanship positions. Dr. Sonnie Babatunde was the Chairman of Mortgage Warehouse Funding Limited since January 2017 and the Chairman of Unique Group of Schools Limited since January 2013.

Dr. Ayere has also been involved in various organizations. Dr. Sonnie Babatunde served as a member of the SEC Capital Market Master Plan Implementation Council (CAMMIC) in July 2019. Dr. Sonnie Babatunde was a Non-Executive Director of AIICO Insurance Plc from March 2014 to December 2018. Furthermore, they were the President of the Association of Issuing Houses of Nigeria from August 2016 to November 2018.

Before their current roles, Dr. Ayere played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company as the Task Manager and Inaugural CEO. During their tenure from September 2012 to June 2015, they were responsible for designing and creating a housing finance ecosystem for the country. Dr. Sonnie Babatunde also contributed to the development of the Mortgage and Foreclosure Bill and the necessary technological system.

Prior to their work in Nigeria, Dr. Ayere served as an Adviser to the Lagos State Government on the setup of Lagos Homs at the Lagos Mortgage Board from June 2007 to April 2015. Dr. Sonnie Babatunde also held the position of Managing Director and CEO at United Capital Plc from 2005 to 2009.

Earlier in their career, Dr. Ayere worked as a Senior Investment Officer at the IFC (World Bank Group) from 2001 to 2005.

Dr. Sonnie Babatunde Ayere completed a Corporate Finance Program at the London Business School in 1995-1996. From 1994-1996, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Finance at Bayes Business School. Dr. Sonnie Babatunde obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree (MA Hons) in Financial Economics from the University of Dundee in 1990-1993.
