Dr. Sonja Brungs

Dr. Sonja Brungs is the Head of Department for Astronaut Training at DLR and currently serves as a Crew Support Engineer at the European Space Agency’s Human and Robotic Exploration Programme. In this role, Dr. Brungs facilitates the daily lives of astronauts, ensuring their needs and preferences are met, including the procurement of specialized food. Prior to joining ESA, Dr. Brungs worked at the German Aerospace Center, where they held various research positions, including Group Leader of the ISS and Space Experiments Group. Dr. Brungs earned a diploma and a doctorate in cell biology from the University of Bonn, focusing on gravitational biology and immune responses under altered gravity conditions.
