Emilio Oropeza

Emilio Oropeza has worked in various positions in the field of marine biology and clinical laboratory science. Emilio started as a Student Aquarist in the Waikiki Aquarium in 2013, where they were responsible for feeding and maintaining multiple exhibits. Emilio also assisted with the NOAH Hawaiian Sea Turtle Project. In 2015, they became an Aquarium Biologist in the same company, and was involved in designing and constructing new aquarium habitats, monitoring the health and welfare of organisms, and maintaining life support machinery and equipment. In 2017, they became an Aquarist in Mystic Aquarium, where they managed separate areas of operation and conducted daily quality control checks. Emilio was responsible for health and behavioral monitoring of species such as sharks, rays, sea turtles, and several tropical fish species, and created and maintained several database documents and detailed logs. In 2021, Oropeza became a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Dominion Diagnostics, where they perform high complexity diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the preparation and analysis of patient specimens. Emilio is responsible for preparing samples for analysis using complex toxicology instrumentation and methods.

From 2010 to 2015, Emilio Oropeza attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General. Additionally, Emilio obtained certification in SCUBA (open water) from PADI in April 2010. There is also documentation of Emilio obtaining certifications in CPR/AED/First Aid and Level 1 Life Support and Water Quality. However, the specific times at which Emilio obtained these certifications are unknown.
