Pier Adelchi Ruffini has a diverse work experience, starting in 1997 as a "dirigente medico I livello (ex aiuto ospedaliero) oncologia" at Ospedale San Bortolo. From there, they worked as a "dirigente medico I livello oncologia" at Azienda Ospedaliera Ospedale Niguarda Ca' Granda in 1999 before joining the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a Research Fellow in the same year. In 2002, they returned to Azienda Ospedaliera Ospedale Niguarda Ca' Granda as a "dirigente medico I livello oncologia" until 2005. During this time, they also pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Oslo, focusing on the development of targeted DNA vaccines. In 2005, they became a Ph.D. student at the University of Oslo and later joined Dompé in 2009 as a Development Director and Chief Medical Officer.

Pier Adelchi Ruffini obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in immunology from the University of Oslo from 2006 to 2009. pier adelchi also completed a specializzazione (board certification) in oncology from Università degli Studi di Milano from 1991 to 1995. Earlier, they received their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Medicina from the same university between 1985 and 1991. Additionally, they completed their secondary education at liceo classico.
