Michael Barnwell

Michael Barnwell has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Michael started their career as a Helpdesk Assistant at the University of Kent in 2005, where they provided computer and library support. In 2007, they transitioned to the role of a Financial Software Engineer at Fidessa, specializing in C++ and TCL development for a trading platform.

From 2009 to 2013, Michael served as a Technical Lead at RiverMuse, a network and systems monitor solution. During this time, they played a crucial role in the design and implementation of the software, utilizing a wide range of technologies such as Java, Python, PHP, C++, GWT, Spring, Hibernate, ActiveMQ, Tomcat, Hudson, MySQL, and SmartGWT.

Following this, in 2013, Michael joined RightITnow as a Technical Lead, where they continued to contribute to the design and implementation of the enterprise monitor solution after RightITnow acquired RiverMuse. Michael then co-founded Doordeck in 2015, assuming the role of Co-Founder and CTO. Doordeck is a company focused on access control and security systems.

In 2020, Michael took on the position of Principal Kotlin Developer at Bumble, a dating and social networking platform. In this role, they played a key role in developing the platform's features using Kotlin. Michael also briefly worked as an Entrepreneur at Antler during the same year.

Throughout their career, Michael has demonstrated strong technical skills, leadership abilities, and a knack for tackling complex technical challenges, making him a valuable asset to any organization.

Michael Barnwell earned a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Kent from 2004 to 2007. Prior to that, they obtained a BTEC National Diploma in IT Practitioners (System Support) from Epping Forest College between 2002 and 2004. In addition to their formal education, Michael also obtained certification in "Kotlin for Java Developers" from Coursera in February 2021.
