Derek Kruse has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Derek started their career at Hormel Foods as an Engineering Project Manager from 1998 to 1999. Derek then joined IBM, where they held various roles such as Project Manager from 2000 to 2003, Regional Contract Manager from 2004 to 2006, and Global Process Integration Manager and Division CIO from 2006 to 2012. In 2012, they became the Chief Information Officer at the Douglas-Omaha Technology Commission. Most recently, in 2018, they joined Creighton University's Heider College of Business as an Instructor in Strategic Management.

Derek Kruse has a strong educational background, starting with their high school education at Fremont High School, where they earned a Diploma in General Studies in the years 1996-2000. Following that, they attended Cornell University from 1996-2000, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Real Estate Management and Human Factors/Ergonomics.

After a gap of several years, Derek pursued further education at Emory University's Goizueta Business School from 2004-2005. Here, they earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a specialization in Organizational Management.

Most recently, Derek enrolled at Creighton University's Heider College of Business from 2016-2019, where they successfully completed their Doctorate degree in Business Administration.
