Steve Krankota

Steve Krankota is the current CEO at Dow Bay Area Family YMCA. Prior to this, they served as the Executive Director at YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit from April 2017 to December 2021. Steve was responsible for managing daily activities for the facility with 4,000 members, and supervised 6 full-time and 70 part-time staff in membership, health & wellness, family programs and aquatics. Steve was also responsible for recruiting, retaining and engaging a volunteer advisory board. Additionally, they directed and coordinated the branch’s $55,000 fundraising campaign; 42% increase since 2017.

Before their role as Executive Director, Krankota served as the Membership and Marketing Director at YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit from July 2008 to April 2017. In this role, they were responsible for the department budget and fiscal management, and coordinated the Military Outreach Initiative which generated $600,000 of new revenue. Steve also recruited, hired and trained all membership and welcome center staff to ensure our member experience goals were achieved. Additionally, they managed our building supervisors and was a member of leadership team that communicated and supported each other while meeting the needs of our members. Steve also exceeded membership growth in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. Lastly, they developed the marketing plan for the branch which included community outreach events.

Steve Krankota's educational career began with a radio and communication diploma from the Specs Howard School of Media Arts. Steve then went on to study communication and general media at the same school.
