Melissa Shippey, CPESC, CISEC has over 20 years of environmental work experience. Melissa began their career in 1999 as a Land Condition Trend Analysis Field Technician for the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). In 2001, they worked as a Laboratory Technician for the University of Alaska Fairbanks. From 2002 to 2005, they were a Staff Scientist for EA Engineering, Science, and Technology, Inc. From 2005 to 2015, they were a Senior Scientist for Travis/Peterson Environmental Consulting, Inc. where they conducted Phase I, II Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater contaminant plume delineation and characterization, and organized and completed field work for local and remote locations throughout Alaska. Since 2019, they have been the Environmental Compliance Coordinator for Doyon Utilities, where they provide contaminated sites management, coordinates with DPW and Regulatory agencies, and develops work plans for DU Projects and Operations activities on Ft Wainwright, Ft Greely, and Ft Richardson - JBER Alaska. Melissa is also the Storm water manager for APDES MSGP and Construction General Permit plans and facilities operated by DU, responsible for all inspections, monitoring, and reporting requirements for the DU MSGP SWPPP - Sector O Central Heat and Power Plant on Ft Wainwright, Alaska.
Melissa Shippey obtained their B.S. in Natural Resources Management from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1999. Prior to that, they attended West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 1992, studying Biology, General. Melissa also attended Reading Area Community College from 1988 to 1989, receiving an Associate of Science (A.S.) in Tourism and Travel Services Management. In addition to their educational background, Shippey has obtained three certifications: McCoy RCRA Training - 40 hours from McCoy Seminars in October 2019, Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control from CISEC in January 2016, and Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control from the International Erosion Control Association (IECA).
