Sage Weil's work experience includes serving as the CEO of Civic Media, Inc since 2022. Prior to that, they worked at DreamHost Web Hosting, where they co-founded the company and served as the Managing Director since 1997. At DreamHost, they directed the development of the Ceph open-source distributed file system. Sage also worked at Red Hat as a Senior Distinguished Engineer from 2014 to 2021 and at Ceph as the Chief Architect from 2007 to 2021. Additionally, they were a Fellow at VoteAmerica in 2020, where they helped build software for voter registration and ran a direct-mail movers program. Sage founded Inktank in 2012 and served as the CTO until 2014. Inktank focused on transforming storage with the Ceph storage system. Sage also worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of California, Santa Cruz and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 2003 to 2007. Prior to that, they were a student at Harvey Mudd College from 1996 to 2000. Sage also founded Webring.org in 1994, which was later sold to Starseed and eventually acquired by Geocities (and then Yahoo) in 1999.
Sage Weil pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Harvey Mudd College from the years 1996 to 2000. Later, between 2003 and 2007, Sage attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where they completed a PhD in Computer Science.
