Get to know Toni Ranta, Droppe's new SDR

Get to know Toni Ranta, Droppe's new SDR

Toni Ranta has found a new passion. An avid hockey fan and a former electrician, Toni is discovering something new as a B2B sales rep at online wholesale marketplace Droppe. Like many in his native Finland, ice hockey is Toni’s first love. He played for 10 years, and now he spends a lot of his spare time coaching a junior team. Toni was a trained electrician, who spent around five years in the profession. He took on a range of projects around west and inner Finland, including one at Powerpark amusement park as a service mechanic. He heard about Droppe at a time when he was re-evaluating his career and considering finding a new challenge. “I just wanted to try something new. My cousin, Erik, worked for Droppe, and he told me to come and check it out. He also told Johannes that I was looking for new opportunities. I wasn’t sure, because I had a regular job, but then I just jumped in.” Toni had no experience in sales before, but his eagerness to try something new saw him join the sales team in March 2021. He’s certainly had no regrets since then. “It's a new company, so it’s been great - everybody is so nice. We’re growing fast, which means our sales team is growing too. The future is looking very bright!” The nature of Droppe’s remote team means that Toni is yet to meet any of his colleagues in person. However, he enjoys the flexibility that gives him, and says daily team check-ins help to promote collegiality and culture among colleagues. When he’s not working (or coaching hockey), Toni’s often found awake in the early hours of the morning, watching the NHL. The time difference between North America and Finland means he has to get up at 2am to watch games, but he says it’s part of the “true dedication” he has to the sport. Toni actually sees the benefit of his sporting passion in his career too. “I've always been a team player, and that comes from hockey. The team play aspect of work has always been easy for me, no matter what kind of people you have around you.”

Meet Abdullah Saud, Frontend Engineer at Droppe

Meet Abdullah Saud, Frontend Engineer at Droppe

Abdullah Saud has been on a fast ascent. Since gaining a degree in computer science four years ago, Abdullah has rapidly proven himself as a highly capable and efficient developer, culminating in his new position as a Frontend Engineer for Droppe—the one-stop shop for all your wholesale. Abdullah most recently worked as a Senior Software Engineer for Singapore-based healthcare company Homage. He says it was initially a bit of a struggle to find a job after graduating, but he quickly found his feet. “As a fresh graduate in Pakistan, it’s really difficult to get hired,” he says. “You have no experience and that’s what every job post is wanting. But once I found a position, I got promotions, and in four months I was taking on all sorts of new responsibilities. “From there, I’ve tried to grab every opportunity, and my role track has been very simple and clear. I’ve set my goals higher and higher every year or every month of my life.” Abdullah has spent his whole life living in Lahore, Pakistan. He has always been interested in engineering in different forms and says he discovered Droppe on LinkedIn. “Droppe as a product fascinates me. The idea behind Droppe really fascinates me, and it’s a self-funded company, which I like. I can see this company going big. It will take time though, and I love the idea of contributing to the success of this company.” Abdullah is the only team member based in Pakistan, but in a fully remote company with team members all over Sweden and Finland, that’s relatively normal. He says his new colleagues have gone the extra mile to make his transition into his new role as easy as possible. “I don’t feel separate from them or distinct, because everyone’s working remotely. A lot of people speak Swedish or Finnish to each other, but English serves as the lingua franca for the whole team, which removes the language barrier. I’m learning some Finnish, but it’s a difficult language.” Abdullah liked to stay active in his spare time, spending time with friends and going hiking in the remote northern areas of Pakistan. He also likes playing cricket and has an eye on making his first overseas trip to Europe once the global situation allows. He actually had a recent trip to Turkey planned before a change in quarantine requirements meant he wasn’t able to go. However, at this stage of his career, he says he’s happy to sacrifice parts of his life in order to progress his career, and he’s driven to continue the fast start he’s made to his work life. “If you’re learning, you’re growing, and I’ve taken that approach from the very first day of my professional career. I also really value honesty, a positive attitude, and hard work, and I think if you take these three things into your life, then everything else is simple.”

Droppe Welcomes Matti Aulaskari as its New Sales Manager

Droppe Welcomes Matti Aulaskari as its New Sales Manager

Droppe—the one-stop shop for all your wholesale—has welcomed Matti Aulaskari as its new Sales Manager. Matti is based in Finland and describes himself as a jack-of-all-trades in operations, analytics, and sales. Matti brings a whole lot of international experience to his new role, including spending the last four years with a range of different companies in Malta. He has also worked in hospitality in Kansas City before earning a Master’s degree in Law in Portugal. He credits his experience in Malta for his professional learnings and says his time in the U.S. helped to bring him out of his shell. “I’m very different now to what I was like as a kid - I used to be a shy boy until I moved to the States. Finnish people aren’t really that social; small talk isn't a thing at all. Suddenly, I'm in a Midwest hotel, trying to please people for a living. And in a foreign language too. That was a character-defining experience. “In Malta, I learned how many things you can drive with data. It's been a wild ride; we went through an IPO with one of the companies I was working for, and others were pushing on with a small team. There were varying roles looking at numbers and learning how to sell to other organizations.” Matti says the idea of working for startups and having a varied career really appeals to him, and the nature of the opportunity at Droppe was especially exciting. “It’s a daring young startup with good ideas behind it, and a bright future. They also share my view of not doing things the traditional way. “I don't see myself going the traditional career path, for example, get into some respected company, doing the same job for 10 years, you might get promoted, you do another 10 years in that position, and so on. If a traditional HR person looked at my CV, they would probably just toss it in the bin, because they only see that I've been switching jobs. Droppe saw value behind artificial time limits." “The world is moving a lot faster than it was 20 or 30 years ago. You can just sit still and get comfortable, but I wouldn’t want to do that. I'm more entrepreneurial than that.” Matti likes going to the gym and keeping fit and hopes to get a dog and help out at a dog shelter. He also harbors a dream of running his own restaurant one day. Matti says his cooking style is using simple ingredients that taste amazing and don’t require too much from a cook. In an ideal world, his restaurant would cook Mediterranean food, particularly seafood, and the food would taste so good “people would start crying tears of joy. Droppe Adds Kristina Raiko as B2B Sales Representative

Droppe Adds Kristina Raiko as B2B Sales Representative

Droppe—the one-stop shop for all your wholesale—has announced the appointment of Kristina Raiko as its new B2B Sales Representative. Kristina’s role is an important one to enable the business to grow, and she brings diverse experience in international business and accounting to help her achieve it. “I was looking for an opportunity to use different languages and help with the internationalization of a company. I saw Droppe as a startup, and I knew there would be good opportunities for that.” Kristina describes herself as being very outgoing and says her first couple of months at Droppe have been great for connecting her with new people, despite it being a virtual workplace. “When I started, there were only eight people at Droppe. It was really nice to get to know the people because in some of the big organizations I worked in before, it wasn’t so easy. You don't get to know everybody, or at least not well. But now, I feel like I know everybody personally, even though we work via the internet.” Kristina’s mother is Mexican and her father is Finnish, so she has an innate global understanding of the world. Add to that, she has a Master’s degree in International Business and sees herself being able to expand the global reach of Droppe in her time with the company. For now, she’s more than happy building up her skills and understanding at Droppe and recognizes that it will take time to build and grow. Kristina is a passionate musician and has been writing, recording, and uploading songs since she was 15. She works at Droppe four days a week and dedicates a lot of her free time to pursue her music. “I’m writing pop and EDM songs in English, and also a bit in Spanish too. I’ve been writing for music producers around the world, I'm doing Troubadour gigs with my guitar, and also sometimes gigs with the artists I've written music with as well. I have about 25 songs out at the moment, and more to come.” Kristina says that while music is her passion, she likes working in other fields to broaden her skills and knowledge. She also gets inspiration from other areas of her life for her music as well. “It gives me the space to write songs about something that just popped into my mind, like ideas or phrases, from hanging out with someone or just being somewhere. I’ll quite often notice something and write it down on my phone.” Always one to push her boundaries, Kristina has traveled extensively throughout Europe, including an exchange in Nice, France. She’s also been to Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand, and Asia is next on her bucket list. “I like to put myself in situations where I have to do stuff that I wouldn’t normally like to do. My exchange was something very new to me, and it went really well. I was surprised by how easy it is to get to know a whole new bunch of people in such a short time. I realized that I can do whatever I want if I want it enough.” Check our Kristina's music here!
