Tim Kruger

Tim Kruger is a scientist and entrepreneur who is dedicated to developing technologies that will help to mitigate the effects of climate change. Tim is the Co-Founder and Director of DryGro, a company that is developing a technology to grow biomass in arid environments with minimal water usage. Tim is also the Founder and Chief Scientist of Origen Power, a company that is developing technologies to capture and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Kruger has always been interested in the environment and the ways in which we can protect it. Tim did their undergraduate studies in Environmental Science at the University of Oxford and went on to complete a PhD in Geoengineering. It was during their time at Oxford that they developed an interest in developing technologies to combat climate change.

In 2010, Kruger co-founded the Oxford Geoengineering Programme (OGP) at the University of Oxford. The objective of the OGP is to assess the potential of all proposed geoengineering techniques to counteract climate change. Kruger and their team have been instrumental in developing the ‘Oxford Principles’, a set of principles for the responsible conduct of geoengineering research.

Kruger has also been awarded a £50k Greenius Award for their work on the DryGro concept. Tim has filed a patent application for a process that simultaneously purifies CO2 from a flue gas and desalinates water. Their recent publications include: ‘Coupling mineral carbonation and ocean liming’ and ‘Engineering challenges of ocean liming’.

Tim Kruger attended the University of Cambridge from 1991 to 1994, where they studied natural sciences.
