Miguel Mascarenhas Filipe

Principal Engineer at Dune Analytics

Miguel Mascarenhas Filipe has worked in the software engineering industry since 2006. Miguel began their career at Altitude Software as a Software Engineer, where they worked on a distributed IVR framework and developed mixed C#, C++, and C applications. In 2009, they took on a role as an Assistant Professor for the Basic Open Source Operating Systems class at ISCTE-IUL. The following year, they became an Assistant Professor for the Open Source Database Management Systems class at the same institution. In 2011, they joined Amazon AWS as a Software Development Engineer on the DynamoDB team, where they were a member of the launch team and contributed to all major components of DynamoDB and several major features. In 2014, they moved to Microsoft as a Senior Software Engineer in the Skype Data team, where they implemented end-to-end compression for on-the-wire and at-rest data for large scale, high throughput distributed systems. In 2016, they joined Citymapper as a Lead Software Engineer, reporting directly to the Founder. Miguel was responsible for a broad scope of roles, including leading the engineer and architect for the SmartRide project. In 2019, they moved to Unbabel as a Principal Engineer. Finally, in 2022, they joined Dune as a Lead Software Engineer.

Miguel Mascarenhas Filipe completed their high school diploma at Colégio São João de Brito from 1993 to 1999, with a focus on Math & Sciences. Miguel then went on to pursue a Master of Science (MSc) in Computer and Software Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico from 1999 to 2006.
