Karina Illescas

Karina Illescas has extensive experience as a freelance translator and proofreader/content creator. Karina worked for Duolingo from August 2017 to the present, where they translated and proofread content. Prior to that, they worked as a freelance translator and project manager at e-Translating Services from August 2016 to the present. Before that, they worked as a freelance translator at Bureau Translations from June 2016 to the present. Karina also worked as a freelance translator at Lingo24 from May 2016 to June 2017, Multiservice Gateway Inc. from May 2016 to January 2017, and SLS international Inc. from 2016 to 2017. Karina started their career at Duolingo as a freelance translator from October 2013 to April 2016.

Karina Illescas has a diverse education history. In 2001 to 2004, they attended the Academia de Traducción Easy, where they earned a degree in Traductora Jurada, specializing in Translation and Interpretation. From 2010 to 2014, they pursued a Profesorado en Inglés degree at the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, focusing on Teaching English as a Foreign Language. In 2017, they completed a Diplomatura in Lingüística Española at Universidad Francisco Marroquín. Following that, they enrolled at Loyola Escuela Empresarial para las Américas from 2018 to 2019, obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Legal Translation. Continuing their education, they returned to Universidad del Valle de Guatemala from 2018 to 2021 and completed a Licenciatura en Educación with a specialization in ESL. Karina is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Translation at Loyola Escuela Empresarial para las Américas, scheduled to be completed in 2023. Additionally, in 2022 to 2023, they are also pursuing a Posgrado in Educational Technology at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala.
