David Klavitter rejoined Dupaco in 2009 after working as vice president of editorial communication for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) in Washington, D.C. Prior to CUNA, he was a member of Dupaco’s marketing team from 1996-1999.
Klavitter is active in state and national credit union initiatives, including the Iowa Credit Union League’s Advocacy Committee and treasurer of the state’s Credit Union Political Action Committee. He also serves as a trustee for the Credit Union National Association’s federal Credit Union Legislative Action Council in Washington, D.C.
Klavitter is an alumnus of the Filene Research Institute’s i3 (Ideas, Innovation, Implementation) program. He is a Credit Union Development Educator, and has been active in the World Council of Credit Unions with experience in Peruvian credit union issues. Klavitter is a recipient of the American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award.
Locally, he serves on the City of Dubuque Historic Preservation Commission, as well as the board of the American Red Cross, where he is a long-time disaster volunteer. Klavitter is a founding board member of Heritage Works, which leverages architectural heritage to drive community revitalization and economic development.
He earned a BA in public relations and journalism from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
