Chief Innovation Officer at Durabilis

Wietse Vroom has had a diverse range of work experiences, primarily in the agriculture and food industry. Wietse has held various leadership roles at Durabilis, including Chief Innovation Officer, where they are responsible for developing and implementing innovation strategies. Wietse has also worked as a board member and co-founder of ADISAGUA, a platform for development and certification programs in the Guatemalan vegetable industry. At FairFruit, they served both as CEO and Technical Director, overseeing sustainable production and ensuring high-quality standards for fresh vegetables and mangoes. Additionally, they have worked as a project coordinator and consultant, specializing in sustainable agriculture, smallholder inclusion in value chains, and quality management systems. Wietse holds a PhD in Science & Technology Studies from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam & Wageningen University.

Wietse Vroom attended Wageningen University & Research from 1998 to 2004, where they obtained a Msc degree in Molecular Sciences and Communication Sciences. Wietse then went on to study at WTMC from 2004 to 2008, focusing on Science, technology, and modern culture. Before that, Wietse completed their final year of high school at St Clair Highschool in Sydney in 1998. Wietse had previously attended Thomas College Venlo from 1991 to 1997, where they completed their Gymnasium education.
