Sam Burruano

Sam Burruano is currently a trustee at D'Youville University. Sam previously worked as the assistant general counsel-retail services and assistant corporate secretary-svp at First Niagara Bank from March 2011 to October 2016. In this role, they were responsible for various corporate matters, including conferring with business leaders on M&A, contractual, and litigation matters.

In addition, Sam built and led the legal team that delivered advice to the retail banking, residential lending, consumer finance, and indirect lending lines of business and associated compliance oversight functions (BSA/AML, consumer deposit and lending regulations). Sam also served as the lead attorney for deposits, lead attorney for residential lending, servicing, collections, and secondary markets, and managed consumer compliance.

Sam also served on key leadership committees, such as the management compliance committee, which prepared enterprise level policies; oversaw the administration of the compliance management program; reported operational and regulatory risks to executive management; the consumer credit risk and policy committee, which assessed consumer finance compliance and credit underwriting risks and developed and implemented lending policies; the new products and initiatives committee, which evaluated and implemented product changes, geographic expansions, and other strategic initiatives; and the BSA/AML committee, which oversaw the administration of the BSA/AML program and implemented policies.
