Thomas König

COO Networks at E.ON

Thomas König was born in Finnentrop, Germany, on April 13, 1965. He studied business administration at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster. He completed his doctorate after a period of academic work at the institute of corporate research.

Thomas König began his career at VEBA AG, a predecessor company of today's E.ON SE. From 1995 to 2005, he held various senior positions in the areas of corporate planning and business administration at VEBA AG and in addition in the area of controlling at the later E.ON AG. Here, among other things, he contributed significantly to the merger of VEBA AG and VIAG AG. In 2006, he was appointed Chief Financial Officer of E.ON Avacon AG and became Chairman of the Board of Management in the same year. Over the course of two years, he then successfully led a Group-wide restructuring project at E.ON AG. Under his aegis, savings of over € 1 billion were achieved. In 2010, he became the Chief Financial Officer and Labor Director (“Arbeitsdirektor”) at E.ON Ruhrgas AG. As a member of the board at E.ON Energie AG in Munich, he then led the reorganization of the German sales and network business within E.ON. Since 2012, he was a member of the management team at E.ON Deutschland; since 2018, he was CEO and CFO of Energienetze Deutschland with responsibility for E.ON’s entire German network business.

Since 2018, Thomas König is a member of the E.ON SE Board of Management. He is responsible for Energy Networks (incl. Turkey).

Thomas König is married and has two children.
