Originally from the small steel mill town of Aliquippa, PA, Randy joined ESa in 1982. He has managed the design and construction administration phases for some for the firm’s largest and most complex master planning, new and renovation design projects—the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, Phase IV Delta expansion of Gaylord Opryland’s Resort and Convention Center and multiple phased renovations/expansions for The Hotel Hershey in Hershey, PA. Randy joined ESa after earning his Associates Degree in Architectural Technology from Nashville State Technical Institute in 1979. Doing whatever it takes to get the job done, he defines excellent client service as “listening carefully and communicating clearly.” This allows him to better understand his client’s wants and (more importantly) needs, in helping them achieve their goals.
Randy’s portfolio is diverse, and includes extensive experience in the areas of hospitality, healthcare, corporate office, education and performing arts projects. In addition to being responsible for the coordination of office departmental activities, he remains deeply involved in the design, construction document, specification and construction administration phases of his projects. Randy’s personal design philosophy is that “form follows function, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be beautiful.” His greatest sense of accomplishment comes from “seeing and hearing the response of the people who live, work and play in the spaces we create.”
Randy is committed to helping educate and inspire younger design professionals at ESa, seeking to help them better understand the relationship of design and the constructed world. When not in the office, Randy is active volunteering with his church’s youth programs, spending time with family, traveling and trout fishing whenever (or wherever) he can.
