Carly Woollard

Senior Test Engineer at Earth Observant

Carly Woollard has worked in various roles in the aerospace industry since 2008. In 2008, they began their career as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Colorado, leading Calculus 1 workgroups. In 2010, they completed an internship at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where they were tasked with determining parameters affecting the accuracy of the Gauss-Gibbs Angles-Only Initial Orbit Determination Algorithm. Carly then returned to MIT Lincoln Laboratory in 2011, this time as Assistant Staff in the Space Control Group. In this role, they analyzed data on observations of satellites from the state-of-the-art DARPA-commissioned Space Surveillance Telescope, and was part of a small team of engineers who discovered that the relationship between satellite velocity at different declination angles versus semi-major axis and eccentricity could be utilized in satellite orbit determination. From 2016 to 2022, they worked as a System Engineer at Ball Aerospace, and is currently a Senior Test Engineer at EOI Space.

Carly Woollard began their educational journey in 2003 at Littleton High School. Carly then attended the University of Colorado Boulder, where they graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and a minor in Computer Science in 2011. In 2014, they completed their Master of Arts in Mathematical Biology from The Ohio State University.
