Kirsty Young has over 25 years of work experience in the field of environmental management. Kirsty is currently the Head of Programme Consents at the East West Railway Company, a position they have held since June 2019. Prior to this, they worked at Network Rail for 21 years, holding various roles including Head of Consents and Sustainability, Environment Manager, and Environment Development Officer at different times between 1998 and 2019. Kirsty also worked as a Course Director and Environmental Consultant at Brunel University London from 1994 to 1997.

Kirsty Young obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Queen Mary University of London between the years 1986 and 1989. Kirsty further pursued a Master's degree in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London, graduating in 1993. Prior to their undergraduate studies, Kirsty attended Craigholme School in Glasgow from 1983 to 1985, although no specific degree was mentioned in relation to this educational experience.
