Sjoerd Smeets

Sjoerd Smeets is an accomplished insurance executive currently serving as CEO and President of EastWest Ageas Insurance since December 2022, after previously holding the position of Country Manager. Prior to this, Sjoerd was the Chief Risk Officer at Ageas Portugal Grupo, where responsibilities included Risk Management, Compliance, and the New Ways of Working programme. Sjoerd has extensive experience in underwriting, having held roles such as Chief Underwriting Officer for Non-Life and Head of Non-Life Underwriting & Pricing. Sjoerd's career includes significant contributions to risk management and actuarial practices across multiple organizations, including Ageas, Ocidental, Oranta Eureko, and Achmea. Academic qualifications include a degree in Econometrics from the University of Groningen and designation as an Actuarial Analyst from Actuarieel Instituut.
