Born in Bad Kreuznach in 1961. Studied Economics at the Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz, where he obtained a degree in Economics.
From 1989 to 1994, at AEG/Daimler-Benz AG, he was responsible for the commercial activities of various subsidiaries.
Beginning in 1994, held various management positions at semiconductor manufacturer Atmel Corporation, including commercial manager/chief financial officer at the Philippine production site. Later he was a member of the management board of Heilbronn, responsible for the overall commercial responsibility for the German region and a division of the Atmel Group.
