John Urness

John Urness possesses a robust background in water resources and environmental science, currently serving as an Assistant Water Resources Specialist and Hydrographer II at EBMUD since June 2016. Prior experience includes a Watershed Resource Analyst role at Sierra Watershed Progressive and a Research Assistant position at the CSU Monterey Bay Seafloor Mapping Lab. John also contributed as a Student Research Assistant at CSU Monterey Bay and NASA Ames Ecological Forecasting Lab, focusing on irrigation management and soil moisture characterization. An internship as a GIS Analyst for CALFIRE involved developing fire preplan maps. Additional experience encompasses leadership in IT and project management, including 13 years at Tom Sawyer Software and project co-direction for rural development initiatives in Mexico with Concern America. John holds an M.S. in Applied Marine and Watershed Science from CSU Monterey and a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Planning from Sonoma State University.
