Amy Wong has a diverse range of work experience spanning numerous organizations and roles. Amy began their career as a neuroscientist and researcher at McGill University in 2002. In 2004, they joined the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as a radio/video journalist, where they created and produced digital news reports and guest hosted a variety show. From 2006 to 2007, they worked as a digital media consultant before joining the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SRG SSR) in 2007 as a multimedia journalist. At SRG SSR, they managed website content and social media strategy for the English radio station and produced online video reportages. In 2013, Wong joined the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), initially as an online managing editor and later moving into leadership roles focused on digital strategy and marketing.

Amy Wong attended McGill University from 1998 to 2002, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Chemistry. Amy later pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University from 2002 to 2006. In 2010, they attended ECAL - Ecole cantonale d'art de Lausanne, completing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Cinematography and Film/Video Production by 2012. In 2018, Amy obtained a certificate in Digital Marketing: Customer Engagement, Social Media, Planning & Analytics from Columbia Business School. Amy also holds a certification as a Hootsuite Certified Professional from Hootsuite Media Inc., obtained in 2015.
