Nijs Van Der Vaart

Nijs van der Vaart serves as the Managing Director at Bcon Medical, leading a Medtech startup focused on image-guided surgery for cancer treatment, spun out from the Dutch Cancer Institute. Concurrently, Nijs holds the position of COO at Echopoint Medical Ltd, overseeing R&D, product definition, customer relations, and supplier management for an innovative coronary physiology catheter system. Previous roles at Philips include Venture Manager for OncoProbe, where Nijs was instrumental in fundraising and preparing for a spin-out into Lumen Medical, and Head of Innovation & Venturing for Philips Image Guided Therapy Systems, responsible for the long-term innovation roadmap. Nijs has a strong research background, having managed a team at Philips Research dedicated to developing medical devices, and has worked on OLED television technologies. Academic achievements include a PhD in Semiconductor Physics & Quantum Devices from Delft University of Technology and further studies at The Wharton School and the University of California, Berkeley.
