EcoAstroBD is a nonprofit, astronomy-for-developmet platform founded by Sheikh Samia Akter Sami, to expand equitable access to hands-on astronomy and STEM learning primarily in Bangladesh, particularly for students and teachers from rural and underserved communities. Using astronomy as a developmental tool, the initiative addresses gaps in practical learning, critical thinking, creativity, and environmental awareness. 

The first flagship project of EcoAstroBD, originating from its founder - Sheikh Samia Akter Sami, has been selected for a grant of 9500 Euro by the International Astronomical Union’s Office of Astronomy for Development in their annual grant program. Currently, the platform is conducting this project with coordination and support from the IAU-OAD.

EcoAstroBD integrates members from a diverse range of disciplines, reflecting its belief in the interdisciplinary aspect of astronomy. 

What makes EcoAstroBD different is that unlike other astronomy platforms, we tell people to be passionate about the "outcomes" of astronomy, not about the field itself. We promote "curiosity" for the cosmos, not blind fantasy about it.

With our vision of creating an inclusive, impactful, and eco-conscious pathway for the students and educators of Bangladesh and beyond, especially those from underserved areas, to engage with astronomy and STEM as "tools" for learning, critical thinking, creativity, and social development, we hope to take this journey beyond the horizon.
