Ecobunker™ has earned its reputation as the world leader in resilient bunker face and edge solutions, which involves the engineered design and construction of retaining walls formed from artificial re-purposed and recycled synthetic grass and other components.

Bunkers only occupy between 2-3% of the total area of a golf course but can require 20-25% of Superintendent’s available resources to maintain. This is especially true with revetted edge or sod-wall bunkers. Our research (conducted with clients such as St Andrews, The Greenbrier, Southerndown, Pennard, and Secession) shows that it is not unusual for golf courses to spend at least $32,000 Cdn/annum on bunker maintenance and this figure is often a lot higher where clubs set a very high standard, often reaching $64,000 Cdn/annum.

There are many factors contributing to these maintenance costs, but the two most common are the erosion of edges and faces (particularly on Links courses) and sand wash down and the resulting contamination and drainage problems often seen on inland courses with steepened sand faced bunkers. When engineered and implemented with our proven construction methodology, Ecobunker™ systems will mitigate these maintenance challenges with a warranty of 20 yrs. Compare this to the typical 2-5yr life span of traditional sod wall bunkers.

To summarise the benefits: the Ecobunker™ edge design will provide a permanent safe resilient edge, significantly reduce sand contamination from bunker sides, prevent damage caused by careless golfers and burrowing animals and eliminate the time consuming greenkeeping practice of bunker edging.

Renowned Golf Course Architects including, Butch Harmon, Bruce Devlin, Donald Steel, Nicklaus Design, Pete Dye, Tom Doak, Arnold Palmer Design, Greg Norman GCD, and Bobby Weed have incorporated Ecobunker™ into their designs. As Tom Doak recently commented: “One of the benefits is that, from an architect’s perspective, I can ‘’lock-in’’ my design with Ecobunker™."
