Naomi Friedman currently serves as the National Coordinator for Disaster Recovery and Resilience at the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration since February 2018. Previously, Friedman worked at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, managing a portfolio focused on sustainable community development and climate resilience from November 2011 to February 2018. Earlier experience includes roles as Deputy Director and Project Director at the National Association of Regional Councils, where $9 million in funding was secured for green job training and climate strategies, and Assistant Executive Director at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, where Friedman co-led a regional smart growth campaign. Additional work involved advising Congress on sustainability issues as the Director of Sustainable Markets at the Center for a New American Dream and as an Independent Consultant for the Environmental and Energy Study Institute. Friedman's career began at the National Association of Counties as a Senior Project Manager. Education includes degrees from Tufts University and Brandeis University.
