Maria Catalina Escobar has a diverse work experience in various companies and government institutions. Maria Catalina started their career at the Ministry of Finance Colombia in 2002, where they initially worked as an Advisor and later became the Director of External Financing. In this role, they were responsible for structuring and executing debt and liability management transactions for the nation and government entities. Maria Catalina joined Kellogg School of Management in 2009 to pursue their MBA, which they completed in 2011. Maria then interned at Pacific Gas and Electric Company in 2010. Maria Catalina later joined the Ministry of Hacienda in 2011 as the Head of Financing Government Entities and subsequently became the Head of Investment Banking. Maria joined Ecopetrol in 2014 as the Head of Corporate Finance, where they currently hold a position.
Maria Catalina Escobar earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and International Relations from Universidad Externado de Colombia in 2002. In 2007, they obtained a Specialist degree in Risk Economics from Universidad de Los Andes. From 2009 to 2011, they pursued their MBA in Finance and General Management at Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management.
