José Pedro Salema has a diverse work experience in the fields of agribusiness and infrastructure development. José Pedro started their career as a Junior Consultant at AGROGES, Sociedade de Estudos e Projectos, Lda in September 1997. José Pedro then founded and served as the CEO of AGROGESTÃO, a software and consultancy firm for agribusiness, from March 1998 to November 2013. During their time at AGROGESTÃO, José Pedro Salema played a pivotal role in creating a leading farm management software in Portugal. In December 2013, they became the President and CEO of EDIA - Empresa de Desenvolvimento e Infra-Estruturas do Alqueva, where they currently work.

José Pedro Salema earned an Engineer's Degree in Agricultural Economics and Farm Management from the University of Lisbon, where they studied from 1991 to 1996. In 2000 to 2002, they pursued further education at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, completing a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with a focus on Information Technology. Later, in 2004 to 2005, José Pedro Salema obtained a Master's Degree in Management from Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Apart from their formal education, José Pedro Salema has also obtained additional certifications. In August 2020, they completed the "Ken Blanchard on Servant Leadership" program offered by LinkedIn. Furthermore, in January 1999, they obtained the "CAP/CCP - Certified Trainer" certification from IEFP (Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional).
