As founder and CEO of General Inception, a venture studio focused on commercializing scientific breakthroughs at the intersection of technology and biology, Dr. Conley represents General Inception’s affiliate investor network, including Hughes Ventures, Paladin Capital Group and Vertical Venture Partners. Paul has been a venture capital investor since 2007 when he became a partner at Paladin Capital Group, going on to various partner and advisor roles at Vertical Venture Partners, Genoa Ventures and OMX Ventures. He has served on more than 30 boards of directors of venture-back and public companies across the software, semiconductor and life science industries. Prior to his venture investment experience, Dr. Conley was founding CEO of BrightScale, a semiconductor company where he led the commercialization of a multi-core microprocessor technology. As founding CEO of Appfluent Technology, he led the commercialization of in-memory distributed database technologies. Prior to taking the entrepreneurial route, Paul spent nearly a decade in multi-disciplinary R&D roles in the areas of high-performance computing, applied physics, and biomedical engineering, including a postdoctoral position as a research scientist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Paul earned a PhD in Computational Physics and an ME in Bioengineering from UCSD, as well as an MS and BS in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia.
