Skill Up Program Coordinator at Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers

Marion Mendoza has a diverse professional background focused on community support and education, with extensive experience in working with immigrant populations. Currently serving as the Skill Up Program Coordinator and I-WIN Program Facilitator at the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers since April 2018, Marion previously held the position of Ethno-cultural Family Violence Specialist at Today Family Violence Centre, providing crucial support for individuals facing family violence. Marion’s earlier roles include Intercultural and Diversity Training Facilitator and Liaison Broker at Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative, where Marion delivered cultural competency training and assisted immigrant families interacting with Child and Family Services. Additionally, Marion worked as a Multicultural Health Broker, primarily supporting the Filipino community. Marion began a career in education as a Supply Teacher for Edmonton Public Schools, following a Bachelor of Education degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alberta.

EMCN is an immigrant settlement agency whose primary focus is the successful and integrative settlement of newcomers to Edmonton. The agency operates in an inclusive environment, with a welcoming atmosphere and a holistic approach to settlement practices. EMCN offers comprehensive settlement services, including support for the most basic of needs and more intensive support for newcomers with multiple barriers. EMCN revolves its practices around the values of social justice, diversity, compassion, and responsibility, and strives to achieve these values while improving the quality of life for all newcomers and Canadians alike. EMCN is a community agency that seeks to assist immigrants and refugees coming to the Edmonton area in achieving full participation in the community as well as contributing their experiences and skills to strengthen and enrich the lives of all Canadians. This vision is pursued through a wide range of programs and services that include English as a Second Language (ESL), employment services, settlement counselling, personal counselling, community development and community economic development, advocacy, and education. The agency is committed to work in full collaboration with newcomers and their communities to provide programs to meet their needs.
