Karl Nelson

Karl Nelson serves as Vice President of Product & Technology at EdReports since April 2025, following a tenure as Chief Technology Officer at Family Engagement Lab from November 2023 to July 2024. Prior to that, Karl held the position of Chief Information Officer at Illustrative Mathematics from July 2017 to November 2023 and Chief Operating Officer at Open Up Resources from June 2015 to July 2017. Open Up Resources focuses on creating high-quality, free curriculum to enhance instructional equity. Earlier roles include Director of the Digital Learning Department at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Assistant Director of Technology and Operations, and leadership positions at Digital Learning Commons and Puget Sound ESD. Karl's career began as a Web Developer at Puget Sound ESD and as an Apple Computer Higher Education Sales Representative/Webmaster at Westwind Computing. Educational qualifications include a Master of Science in Information Management from the University of Washington, a Master of Arts in History from the University of Iowa, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Western Washington University.
