Karl Nelson

Karl Nelson has an extensive background in technology and operations management within the education sector. Nelson served as Vice President of Product & Technology and Managing Director of Technology & Operations Management at EdReports from April 2025 to September 2025. Prior to that, Nelson was Chief Technology Officer at Family Engagement Lab from November 2023 to July 2024, and Chief Information Officer at Illustrative Mathematics from July 2017 to November 2023. Nelson also held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Open Up Resources, a nonprofit dedicated to providing high-quality curricula for free to promote educational equity, from June 2015 to July 2017. Additionally, Nelson worked at the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction as Director of the Digital Learning Department and Assistant Director of Technology and Operations from July 2009 to June 2015. Nelson holds a Master of Science in Information Management from the University of Washington and a Master of Arts in History from the University of Iowa.
