Deb Scher has extensive experience in civic and community engagement, volunteer management, and partnership development. Deb started their career at Temple Beth-El of Great Neck as an Executive Assistant, where they were involved in program planning and coordination. Later, they joined the Jewish National Fund and Shorashim as a Community Programs Manager and Trip Leader, responsible for managing relationships with speakers and leading educational trips to Israel.
In 2010, Deb joined the US Census Bureau as an Enumerator/Assistant Crew Leader, conducting Census interviews and managing a team of Census takers. Deb then moved to the Sports and Arts in Schools Foundation (SASF) as the Speakers Bureau Coordinator, where they increased volunteer speaker visits by 358% and established an annual Speak Week event.
At SASF, Deb also served as the Director of Volunteer and Corporate Partnerships, where they developed strategic initiatives and partnerships to support the organization's mission of closing the opportunity gap for under-served youth. Deb expanded volunteer initiatives, improved recruitment strategies, and created a menu of opportunities for volunteers to engage.
Currently, Deb works at Educational Alliance as the Director of Civic & Community Engagement, where they are responsible for strategically and meaningfully engaging volunteers to meet the agency and clients' needs. Some of their notable achievements include increasing volunteer recruitment by 1567% and launching the More Hands, More Hearts volunteer program.
Throughout their career, Deb has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and building relationships with diverse populations.
