Mike Nerland

Assistant Superintendent, Teaching & Learning at Educational Service District 112

Mike Nerland has more than 30 years of serving public schools as a teacher, athletic director, elementary, middle, and high school principal, and superintendent. He is a seasoned educational leader whose skill at building relationships and partnerships inspires opportunity and success for students and educators alike. As a longtime superintendent for Camas Public Schools, Mike led successful efforts to pass two bond measures that generated $220 million in capital construction funding and managed a 38% enrollment increase from 2005 to 2015. Over that same time, period graduation rates rose from 77% to 94%. As superintendent, he also developed district-wide early learning, pre-school and full-day kindergarten programs and received 23 Washington Achievement Awards for academic performance.

Mike came to the Pacific Northwest from Wyoming, where he began his career as special education and social studies teacher. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from South Dakota University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the University of Wyoming. He has vast experience leading collaborative strategic planning efforts and implementing robust, successful educational programs in a variety of school settings.

Educational Service District 112 is one of nine statutory regional service agencies in the state of Washington. Created by the legislature 50 years ago, ESDs ensure equitable educational opportunities for all students—urban and rural alike. ESDs are an essential partner in the efficient operation of Washington’s 295 school districts and provide millions of dollars in services to schools through cooperatives, trusts, and competitive state, federal and private funds.
