Gary Patterson is currently the Associate Director and Research Faculty at The University of Memphis and serves as the Executive Director of the West TN Seismic Safety Commission, a position held since 2006. Additionally, Patterson has been the Director of the New Madrid Chapter of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute since 2014.
