Jamie Weir

Chief Communications Officer at EKC Group

As Executive Director for the Office of the Chief Executive, Jamie is responsible for ensuring the Chief Executive’s operational responsibilities are discharged in a role that sees him working across a range of cross-cutting issues. His remit includes developing a cohesive ethos across the Group, ensuring communications across the Group are outstanding, and troubleshooting any operational challenges that arise.

Jamie’s seven-year career at EKC Group began at the then-East Kent College in Broadstairs after a successful career as a local reporter. He joined the Group as its Corporate Communications and Events Officer, slowly rising through a variety of positions which saw him lead a number of areas throughout the Group’s growth and development.

He was instrumental in leading the communications and consultations through the initial merger with Canterbury College and the subsequent rebranding to EKC Group, and has been key in crafting a unified visual identity across the Group. Jamie’s talents for enhancing and maintaining the Group’s reputation has seen it go from strength-to-strength, growing the prominence of technical and vocational education across East Kent and enabling the Group to further benefit the communities we serve.

During his tenure as Head of External Affairs for the Group, Jamie has also showcased his passion for social change, acting in a variety of voluntary roles. Alongside acting as a Dementia Friend, Jamie has been a governor at a national Multi-Academy Trust, as well as taking up roles as a Non-Executive Director and then Chair for the country’s only ‘super-almo’ (Arm’s Length Management Organisation). He ensured the organisation had a clear strategy and vision during a time of significant challenge before stepping down.
