David Rankin serves as Chief Executive of Panuku Development Auckland, a role held since September 2015. In this position, David leads urban regeneration initiatives in Tāmaki Makarau, focusing on planning quality development in town centers and utilizing underused council properties. Prior experience includes serving as Chief Operating Officer and Strategy and Engagement Director at Auckland Council Property Limited from November 2010 to September 2015, as well as Chief Executive of Auckland City Council from 2005 to 2010. David holds a law degree from The University of Auckland.

Eke Panuku Development Auckland is Auckland Council’s urban regeneration agency. We manage a $3 billion portfolio of land and buildings owned by the council, looking for ways for these assets to work harder for the city. We are not developers ourselves but we act as a catalyst for smart partnerships. We work with the community, local boards, private sector and other government agencies to deliver stronger neighbourhoods where affordable housing, communities, business and transport are well planned and sustainable. From small projects that refresh a site or building to major transformations of town centres or neighbourhoods, our goal is always the same: creating amazing places throughout Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland .
