Elayos is a Birmingham-based charity that we established in September 2019 to provide a community doula service to those who need it most. 
We nurture and support women & birthing people throughout pregnancy, labour and birth & in the postnatal period.  As a non medical professional we are there to provide support - be that practical, physical, emotional, information providing or as an advocate.
We receive most of our referrals from NHS professionals, social workers, charity workers and other support workers.

Of all of the local authorities in England, Birmingham has the highest number of births per year and yet has poorer outcomes on a number of measures of healthy maternity; still birth, low birth weight, neonatal death and infant mortality. 
There are significantly higher rates of infant mortality and maternal deaths in deproved populations. Birmingham as a whole has high levels of deprovation with 40% of the population living in the 10% most deprived areas.
