Pierre Gareau has a diverse work experience history with a focus on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and management roles. Pierre started their career in 1997 as a GIS, RS, and IM Specialist at the Geological Survey of Canada. From there, they worked as a Technical Support, Technical Trainer, and Project Manager at Helical Systems Inc. In 2005, they became a GIS Analyst at Navitrak International. Pierre then established their own company called XY GIS in 2004, where they served as the Owner until 2008. In 2007, they joined Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations as a GIS Coordinator for the Nova Scotia Land Registry Program, and also worked as a Program Coordinator for the GeoNOVA Secretariat. Pierre joined Elections Nova Scotia in 2009 as a GIS Manager, and later transitioned to the role of Manager of the GeoNOVA Program and Secretariat at Geographic Information Services, ICTS, Department of Internal Services, Government of Nova Scotia. Pierre returned to Elections Nova Scotia in 2015 and held positions such as Director of Operations and Acting Director of Operations. Overall, Pierre Gareau has extensive experience in GIS and management roles, particularly within the government sector in Nova Scotia.

Pierre Gareau earned a Diploma in Remote Sensing from Nova Scotia Community College - NSCC in 1996-1997. Prior to that, they obtained a BDEP in Environmental Planning from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design from 1990-1994.

Elections Nova Scotia

Elections Nova Scotia is an independent, non-partisan agency that is responsible for the administration of the Elections Act. Its mandate is to conduct provincial general elections, by-elections and liquor plebiscites; ensure compliance with the provincial electoral law including the political financing regime; establish and maintain election-related information including the Nova Scotia Register of Electors; seek advice and conduct studies related to electoral processes; and, conduct electoral education processes. Elections Nova Scotia must be prepared at all times to conduct a provincial general election, by-election, or plebiscite. Elections Nova Scotia is also mandated to provide support to the independent boundaries commission charged with reviewing the boundaries of provincial electoral districts.
