Joe Karas is a Solar Generation Researcher at EPRI since December 2023, focusing on optimizing solar energy performance. Previously, Joe served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory from 2020 to 2023, specializing in degradation issues in solar cells, modules, and systems as part of the Solar PV Reliability and System Performance team. Joe also completed a Doctorate at Arizona State University from 2013 to 2020, with research centered on the reliability of photovoltaic cells featuring plated copper electrodes. Prior experiences include a Research Fellow position at Fraunhofer USA in 2012 and a Research Assistant role at the Joint Global Change Research Institute in 2010. Joe holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from Arizona State University and a B.S. in Polymer Science & Engineering with a Minor in Economics from Case Western Reserve University, with ongoing studies at UNSW since 2011.
